The retreat is designed to create a sense of community and connectedness for its attendees, particularly historically underrepresented junior faculty and post-doctoral staff whose career path is to remain in higher education as faculty or professional administration. We seek to build an atmosphere of support where participants gain first-hand knowledge and experience from a robust collection of season faculty in an open and interactive setting. The cohort will receive guidance on goal setting and outlining a professional plan.
In particular, a number of topics to be discussed may include:
- finding grants and funding research
- the best strategies for publication, research and use of library resources
- navigating challenges and other obstacles in programs and the workplace
- the promotion and tenure process
