Tri-C is committed to supporting The Ohio LSAMP Alliance's goal of doubling the number of underrepresented minority students earning their baccalaureate degrees in STEM disciplines. Tri-C will increase underrepresented minority student recruitment, retention, persistence and attainment of degrees by instituting the following programming and by providing financial stipends for activities associated with paving the way for students' success:

  • Financial support for participating in LSAMP programming
  • Attending a Summer Institute — a two-week summer bridge program between Tri-C and partner institution Cleveland State University.
  • Completing a Transfer Plan to continue education at a four-year institution and to ensure a degree program and curriculum are consistent with goals
  • Attending qualifying presentations
  • Faculty-mentored undergraduate research
  • Taking part in peer mentoring and networking
  • Attending monthly enrichment meetings
  • Participating in The Ohio LSAMP Conference
  • On-campus advising, counseling and tutoring
  • Career workshops

Program Highlights

Tri-C’s partner institution is Cleveland State University. During the summer, both schools work together in hosting the Summer Institute, which is a two-week summer bridge program that helps students refresh their math skills. The program orients students to the college environment, helps them learn about available resources, and encourages engagement, which helps students build a peer network.

One of the experiences offered to our students is job shadowing, and through our Career Services department, a recent LSAMP student said: "Doing job shadowing in dentistry and optometry allowed me to get familiar with the specifics of the procedures and treatments performed in the clinics. Having a closer view into both professions, helped me identify what I liked and wanted to pursue in my future career."
