Internship/Fellowship/Research and Other Opportunities

Applications for our 16th annual BEL (Building Entrepreneurial Leaders) and our 1st annual Consulting Kickstart programs are now open. Applications for BEL are due on February 21st at 11:59pm PT and applications for Consulting Kickstart are due on April 15th at 11:59pm PT and I've included details about each program below.

Consulting Kickstart is designed for Black, Hispanic/Latin American and Indigenous freshman students who attend a university in the US or Canada. Those who are selected will be invited to an exclusive virtual webinar series for a chance to learn about a career in consulting and life at Bain. Additional details about the program and application process may be found on our webpage. Please note that all Consulting Kickstart participants will have the opportunity to interview for the 2025 BEL program. As a reminder, Consulting Kickstart is the new (but different!) version of FLA. DEADLINE: 11:59 p.m. PT, Wednesday, April 15.

BEL is designed for Black, Hispanic/Latin American and Indigenous sophomore students who attend a university in the US or Canada. BEL provides recruits a week long opportunity to strengthen their business and leadership skill set in a Bain office and case team setting. Additional details about the program and application process may be found on our webpage. Please note that all BEL participants will have the opportunity to interview for the 2025 ACI position. DEADLINE: 11:59 p.m. PT, Wednesday, February 21.

Peer Success Leaders are responsible for fulfilling the mission of the Young Scholars Program, which is to encourage and prepare Young Scholar participants for post-secondary education. Peer Success Leaders must have a positive attitude, genuine interest in inspiring high school students for success, respect for and interest in working with people from diverse backgrounds, professionalism, and a desire to promote higher education.

Requirements

  • Build and maintain rapport with students across multiple digital platforms.
  • Relay student-related issues and concerns to the Program Manager
  • Establish and maintain virtual communication with YSP participants and staff.
  • Design and facilitate small and large group college preparatory workshops working with high school students and other collegiate Peer Success Leaders
  • Conduct peer counseling and college readiness advising
  • Assist with YSP Summer Academy, ASPIRE, and/or Summer Institute program design and implementation.
  • Serve as a teacher assistant to summer program course instructors.
  • Promote the safety of Scholars and the security of their belongings through instruction, observation, correction, and cooperation of all program participants.
  • Assist with the distribution, completion, and collection of forms and materials including attendance forms and incident reports.
  • Model behavior that results in establishing and maintaining positive, respectful mentor relationships with students
  • Live on-campus for the duration of summer programming (July 7 - 18)
  • Maintain active involvement in ALL project activities for the duration of the summer program.
  • Receive CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Monitor student on-line behavior during chat sessions if programming becomes virtual.

Requirements for Position

  • This position requires a successful completion of an BCI/FBI background.
  • Must be willing and able to stay the night on a college campus.

Hours and Location

  • Ohio State's Main Columbus Campus
  • 2 Shifts 7:30am – 3:30pm or 3pm – 11pm

Start and End Dates

  • Start Date for this position is July 7th, 2024. End Date: July 18th, 2024 - [Temporary (Fixed Term)]
  • Move in Date July 6th, 2024.
  • Training Dates June 20th – July 2nd 9am-4pm

Compensation

  • Hourly rate is $15.00/hr.
  • Start Date for this position is July 7th, 2024, End Date: July 18th, 2024,
  • Free room during training and summer program.
  • Free breakfast, lunch, and dinner

This program is for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science research. The program provides scholarship recipients up to $20,000 per academic year for tuition, educational, and reasonable living expenses. Scholarships are awarded for one year and can be renewed for up to four years.

For every year of scholarship support, scholars commit to two paid service obligations in the NIH Intramural Research Program. These are:

  • A ten week full-time summer internship at the NIH immediately following the year of scholarship support
  • One year of full-time work at the NIH post-graduation; this service obligation may be deferred until completion of an advanced degree program.

The UGSP application will open in early January 2024.

The application will close on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 12 noon ET.
Early review of applications will begin on Monday, March 15, 2024.
References are due on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 12 noon ET.
EFN certification forms are due on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 12 noon ET.

Job Description
The Office of Diversity and Inclusions ACCESS Collaborative Program is looking for an energetic, detail-orientated individual to administer the day to day service and operation of the OSU Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) child care subsidy program. This is a grant funded position is funded through September 2027. The Program Coordinator administers the OSU CCAMPIS Child Care Subsidy Program and serves as the main point of contact for low-income parenting student families and child care providers. Under the general direction of the ACCESS Collaborative Program Director, the Program Coordinator will develop, facilitate, evaluate and administer the processes for providing childcare assistance for eligible student families; recruit, select and orient eligible students to the program; maintain referral list of qualifying childcare providers; manage student and fiscal program data and reporting; develop marketing materials and make presentations about the OSU CCAMPIS Program.

Responsibilities and Functions:
The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with CCAMPIS grant guidelines, including maintaining budget and tracking expenditures/transactions; tracking GPA and workshop participation requirements; preparing, submitting and tracking internal and external funding proposals; tracking and awarding child care support; completing income eligibility verifications; tracking enrollment and persistence towards graduation; summarizing and reporting student data to internal and external agencies; obtaining and updating provider agreements. The Coordinator arranges meetings of the OSU CCAMPIS Advisory Team, prepares required meeting agendas and drafts reports adhering to federal reporting timeliness and criteria. Additionally, the coordinator performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned areas of responsibility and is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and directing the work of student employees. Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Division, and University goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Has general knowledge of current federal and state financial aid procedures. Knowledge of state public assistance systems including: SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, affordable housing, OWF, PRC, Title XX and other public supportive services; has or will complete Benefit Bank Training.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students; demonstrates compassion and care in engaging students and providing service referrals. Demonstrates positive and effective communication skills; and ability to work with multi-cultural, international, and ethnically diverse populations. Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.
  • Creates a positive and respectful workplace by demonstrating personal and professional competence, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrates competence in budgeting, bookkeeping and recordkeeping. Demonstrated computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems); strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills; Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities; work independently and as a team member, and collaborate with campus and community partners.
  • Attends and actively participates in department staff meetings, training sessions and public.
  • Ability to speak effectively to large and small groups. Excellent interpersonal skills Experience working with families, non-traditional students in a high school, adult education, or higher education setting. Able to travel locally to meet with students and/or attend related events. Some nights and or weekends required.

Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's Level Degree in human or social services

Additional Education Desired
Master's Degree with a Major in social work

Qualifications
Required: At least 2 years professional experience in higher education student success or in human or social services. At least 1 year experience in planning and organizing programs as well as carrying out operational duties such as maintaining data records and preparing reports.

Preferred qualification: At least 1 year experience in managing difficult and complex situations involving parenting college students and their families.

Additional Information
The target hiring range for this job profile is $17.74 - 23.65 The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.

Bradford Woods. in Martinsville, Indiana, in partnership with Riley's Children Foundation and other non-profit agencies, offers summer camp experiences for children with physical and cognitive disabilities and chronic illness in an outdoor setting. We hire a staff of over 80 to help us run our summer camps, and we are actively recruiting for this summer! A variety of 12-week, paid positions are available and employment runs from mid-May to early August.

Bradford Woods has proven to be an excellent opportunity for students in the fields of Nursing, Therapeutic Recreation, Allied Health, Adaptive Physical Education, Speech Therapy, Outdoor Education, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Special Education and many other areas of study.
