The Samuel DuBois Cook Summer Academy

This annual one-week residential summer academy for Young Scholars entering grade 12 is held on Ohio State's Columbus campus. Formerly known as the Summer Institute, the program has been renamed the Samuel DuBois Cook Summer Academy in honor of distinguished Ohio State Alumnus Dr. Samuel DuBois Cook, President Emeritus of Dillard University. Scholars participate in a variety of academic activities that help students feel more familiar with collegiate life. Curricular materials are designed to complement, not duplicate, instruction taught in Young Scholars' respective home schools. The summer academy also provides the opportunity for career exploration by working with various colleges and departments at Ohio State as well as in the community.

Summer Academy consists of talented rising high school seniors, from all participating Young Scholar cities. During Summer Academy scholars will:

• Learn the Ohio State application process to improve their chances of admission to the university
• Develop an understanding of the expectations and rigors of college-level coursework
• Increase awareness of campus resources, academic units, majors, and how to navigate campus successfully
• Understand the attitudes and behaviors that contribute to success
