YSP serves pre-collegiate students in grades 9-12 by providing year-round college counseling and programming designed to enhance college preparation and readiness in partnership with school district administrators and staff, Ohio State faculty, staff, students and alumni, as well as community partners.
YSP Program Coordinators and Managers (PCs and PMs) develop and implement all pre-college programs and workshops with the support of Ohio State and community collaborators.
Scholar Ambassadors are undergraduate Young Scholars who connect with the pre-college scholars in the YSP cities. During holidays and school breaks, Scholar Ambassadors return home to participate in workshops, school visits and programs to meet with, mentor and talk to pre-college scholars about their experience as collegiate scholars. Scholar Ambassadors also play an important role in hosting pre-college scholars during campus one-day and overnight visits.
Academic Year Programs
Young Scholar Academic Year Programs are designed to assist our scholars academically, socially and professionally. Each program supports students with graduating from high school and preparing for application, admissions and transition to higher education.
Campus Day Visits
One-day visits occur during the academic year and familiarize Young Scholars with the Columbus campus, including educational support services, resources, student life and current undergraduate YSP scholars.
Summer Overnight Programs
YSP Summer Residential (overnight) Programs introduce scholars to the Ohio State Columbus campus. Scholars meet faculty and staff, campus administrators and current YSP Scholars who promote student success and retention. Scholars are given opportunities to explore college majors and careers while being fully exposed to the Columbus community.
