The Women's Place President and Provost's Leadership Institute (PPLI) kicked off its eleventh cohort with an orientation at Camp Mary Orton in Columbus on 8/30/2023. The half-day orientation involves experiential learning physical activities that provide a team building foundation along with teachable moments on leadership skills and communication.
The cohort is comprised of 23 faculty members who represent eight colleges and the libraries.
PPLI is a three-semester leadership development program for new and emerging faculty leaders with interests in administrative positions. Open to tenure-track and clinical faculty at the rank of associate or full professor, the program's goal is to create a pipeline of faculty leaders from backgrounds underrepresented in administration.
The program consists of three components: leadership assessments, a speaker series called Conversations with Senior Leaders, and discussion- or workshop-based instructional sessions. Through readings, group discussions, and workshops facilitated by campus and external speakers, participants develop values-based leadership philosophies and practices. Topics for these content sessions typically address budgeting and fiscal management, strategic planning, networking, managing employees, and crisis management.
PPLI is now in its 11th cohort (2023-2024), which will conclude in December 2024. Since its founding in 2005, PPLI has trained more than 200 faculty who have emerged as leaders both here at Ohio State and elsewhere in higher education. Alumni of the program represent 14 colleges plus University Libraries, as well as four regional campuses. Some of the most notable alumni of the programs who have remained at Ohio State now occupy positions in 2022 including Senior Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education.
