Group fitness dance classes put a new spin on ODI Scholar’s Ohio State experience

Experts say exercising can change the trajectory of someone’s day. For Anastasia Allison, however, exercise has done something more: It’s altered the course of her Buckeye journey.

Now a fourth-year ODI Scholar (MSP) majoring in visual communication design and minoring in public health, Allison faced a tenuous first year at The Ohio State University, leading her to turn to group fitness.

Avanzando Through College now accepting applications

The ATC Leadership Program, in partnership with UnidosUS, is aimed at equipping students with the skills, information, and support systems to successfully navigate their first year of college and set them on a path for academic and professional success. Students with financial need will receive a $500 stipend upon completion of the program.

Deadline to apply is September 20, 2024.

Since 2000, Latine enrollment at four-year colleges has quadrupled; yet, just over half of Latine students graduate from these institutions. For ODI Scholars Lauren González and Nallely Segura, this is a major problem—one worth traveling across the country to address.

Apple internship leads ODI Scholar to Capitol Hill

When Maceda Berhanu submitted her resume to Apple’s internship portal, she never imagined she’d be spending her summer knee-deep in politics on Capitol Hill. 

Yet the fourth-year Morrill Scholar is now doing just that, working as a government affairs intern on Apple’s environment, policy, and social initiatives team. From researching legislation to attending galas, the internship has given Berhanu an eye-opening look at the world of corporate lobbying and policy development.

FAN student tackles life’s challenges to attend Ohio State

Growing up in Philadelphia, Ricardo Washington always dreamed of attending The Ohio State University.

“I used to watch football with my older brother, and he's a big Buckeyes fan. I would sit there and watch, and Ohio State just grew on me,” Washington said. “I would always tell my brother, ‘I'm going to graduate from Ohio State,' and that's been my goal ever since.”

ODI Tutoring Program benefits learners and peer educators alike

During her first year at Ohio State, Morrill Scholar Olivia Tull found herself facing a difficult truth: I need help. Challenged by her chemistry courses and needing additional support, Tull turned to Academic Services within ODI's Scholarship and Supplemental Academic Services.

Open to Scholars from ten different ODI programs, Academic Services offers individualized tutoring in over fifty courses, supplemental group instruction for commonly difficult subjects, and study materials for over 100 classes.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion mourns the loss of Dr. William “Bill” F. Pickard, a staunch supporter of ODI, who died on June 12, 2024.

Scholars and sisters: Twins accepted to Morrill Scholars Program for Autumn 2024

Twin sisters Cristina and Isabela Reina have always strived to do everything together—classes, extracurriculars, and even summer camps. Now, they’re taking it a step further, both heading to The Ohio State University as neuroscience majors and Morrill Scholars.

“My sister and I are like best friends, so we’re really happy we can stay together and go to Ohio State with this amazing opportunity,” Cristina explained.
