Academic Success Partners (ASPs) will provide support in working with first-year Young Scholars and implementing the program's various student success components during the current academic year.

Job Summary

  • ASPs will be assigned approximately five to seven first-year students. ASPs will assist scholars in making the transition from high school to college, integrating into the campus community, and monitoring their academic progress. 
  • ASPs also work closely with the Young Scholars Program staff to provide services and assistance for Young Scholars undergraduate students and programs.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • ASPs will be assigned a small cohort of scholars. ASPs will assist scholars in making the transition from high school to college, integrating into the campus community, and monitoring their academic progress.
  • ASPs also work closely with the Young Scholars program staff to provide services and assistance for Young Scholars undergraduate students and programs. 
  • Provide ongoing, one-on-one, group mentoring and guidance to Young Scholars and Say Yes Program participants.
  • Refer scholars to tutoring and campus resources relevant to their academic and personal success.
  • Provide required written and verbal reports and documentation describing contacts with scholars as well as other challenges or issues related to carrying out job duties.
  • Meet with supervisor(s) weekly to provide feedback and information about program participants.
  • Attend and actively participate in supplemental meetings and training for staff development during the semester.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating Young Scholars Program workshops and other events throughout the term, including the Early Arrival Program.
  • Be available to work occasional evenings and weekends as requested.
  • Available to attend staff orientation held prior to the start of the autumn semester.
  • Maintain high academic performance (monitored by the Program Manager at the end of each semester).
  • Follow guidelines and policies set forth by the Young Scholars Program, Office of Diversity and Inclusion and The Ohio State University.

Qualifications

  • Eligible candidates must be available to attend a weekly staff meeting.
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student at The Ohio State University Columbus campus.
  • A second-year student with a minimum of 36 credit hours completed.
  • Good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
  • Undergraduate students with strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations of students.
  • An ability to establish priorities and work independently.
  • Positive attitude and a strong desire to help others.

Pay

Federal Work Study Students are encouraged to apply. This position takes place over the academic year (Fall 2024 – Spring 2025). The hourly rate is $11.00 - $12.50 based on experience.
