Upward Bound Parents Information

In addition to services provided to students, The Ohio State University Upward Bound Parent Involvement Team (PIT Crew) serves as a venue in which parents are provided the opportunity to learn more about the critical steps needed for their children to successfully graduate from high school, enroll in, and graduate from college. The PIT Crew also enables parents to network, find support, and provide assistance for one another as their children successfully transition to college. The Parent Involvement Team runs as a separate entity within the Upward Bound Program. The parents are in leadership positions, meet regularly, manage their own budget, participate in scholarship fundraising efforts, and encourage one another as they navigate successful high school completion and college admissions with their child(ren).

Tutoring

The Upward Bound Program encourages all students to seek outside educational support at their home school during Homework Help hours, during athletic teams' study halls, and using online resources. See the UB Academic Counselor for a complete list of locations/times, and online resources.

Student Annual Commitment Contract

This contract allows the student to be held accountable for the goals that they wish to achieve. It also outlines what the students will do as an Upward Bound participant, such as, being on time, having open discussion with parents and counselors, completing homework, participating in Upward Bound activities, accomplishing GPA goals, becoming college ready and maintaining a level of respect to all authoritative figures and for themselves. This is the commitment that every Upward Bound student has to our program.

Parent Contract of Commitment

This contract is the commitment of each Upward Bound parent. It states what each parent is willing to do for their student(s), for themselves, and to assist the Upward Bound Program in helping their child reach academic goals. It details that the parents will assist their child(ren) in accomplishing excellence in academic standing, enforcing the rules and regulations of the program, ensuring attendance at Saturday Academy during the academic year and Summer Institute during the summer, helping their child(ren) maintain good attendance, reading materials and newsletters that are sent home, gaining knowledge and assisting their child(ren)'s entrance to college.

Also, parents are strongly encouraged to participate in our PIT Crew (Parent Involvement Team). This PIT Crew coordinates some of the events and activities for the students, helps with fundraising, attends informational workshops and networks with other Upward Bound parents. Keep your eyes out for the next PIT Crew meeting!
