My name is Lena, and I'm a fifth year here at OSU, and I'm currently studying human development and family science.
[Lena waves to the camera, holding a glass-blowing tube with hot glass in a furnace.]
I'm a Young Scholar, and I've officially been doing glass for three years.
[Lena rolls a blob of hot glass on a metal table, shaping it. She then dips the hot glass into powdered glass of different colors. Afterwards, she puts the hot glass into a metal mold and rolls it to provide shape.]
[upbeat music playing]
I kind of stumbled upon glass. I saw a poster for glass, and I was like, "Oh, why not?"
So I took glass, and I loved it, and then I've kind of been doing it since then.
[Lena uses a blowtorch on the glass to further shape it with metal tools.]
[upbeat music playing]
[Another blob of hot glass is added to the end of the original glass and is cut with a pair of metal scissors.]
My favorite part of glass is definitely the challenge.
I pull out of a 2000 degree furnace. Everything's super hot.
[Lena rolls her glass container and uses a metal too to shape the opening.]
It's heavy, but it's super fun because it's really challenging.
And I like never get bored of it because there's always a new challenge and there's always like a new way to learn.
[Lena shows off the mug that she made and smiles for the camera.]
