The Life and Music of Ustad Vilayat Khan, Padma Vibhushan (Dr.) Prabha Atre and Padma Bhushan Ustad Rashid Khan
Hindustani classical musicians Ustad Vilayat Khan (1928-2004), Padma Vibhushan (Dr.) Prabha Atre (1932-2024) and Padma Bhushan Ustad Rashid Khan (1968-2024) still influence many aspiring Indian classical vocalists. This presentation is both a memorial and tribute, consisting of a retrospective into the lives and music of these great artists and an overview of the basics of the Hindustani (North Indian) classical music system, including the elements of raga (system of modes) and tala (rhythmic cycles), as well as the historical development and traditional lineages (gharanas). Dr. Utpola Borah and Dr. Hans Utter will perform the music and compositions of Vilayat Khan, Prabha Atre and Rashid Khan, accompanied by Vinayak Parvate (tabla) & Shibi Likhite (harmonium).
