Chila Thomas standing with award in her handODI staff member Chila Thomas, assistant director in the Young Scholars Program (YSP), was honored with the Outstanding First Year Advocate award at The Ohio State University First Year Experience’s 2018 Focusing on the First Year Conference.

This award honors individuals who have demonstrated a passion beyond their typical job responsibilities for helping students make the most of their first year, have fostered personal connections with or among first-year students, have implemented policies that helped make first-year student success possible and have served as a resource to new students.

Alvian Williams, YSP program coordinator and Success Coach for first year YSP students, was also nominated. Mr. Williams is a 2015 Ohio State graduate in Public Health and a Young Scholar from Toledo.

Both Ms. Thomas and Mr. Williams were acknowledged at the Focusing on the First Year Conference on January 31, 2018, which brings together faculty and staff from across the Columbus and regional campuses to concentrate on the university's efforts to support the success of first-year students.

Congratulations, Chila and Alvian!
