Summer Bridge Experience Course Instructor

The Summer Bridge Experience Course Instructor will develop curriculum, teach, and complete student evaluations for a non-degree course as a part of the Young Scholars Program, Summer Bridge Experience. The Course Instructor will teach a course introducing key concepts related to critical thinking and analysis, personal reflection, and the paper writing process.

Job Summary

Provide course instruction to assist program participants with the transition of high school to college level coursework, learning skills, and cognition in coursework related to the indicated field of study.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify texts, develop curriculum, and create course syllabus to be used during the summer program
  • Introduce students to core fundamental concepts related to the mastery of course materials, expose students to learning skills and study strategies to support academic achievement in related course materials
  • Expose students to campus resources and helpful strategies to be a successful student
  • Evaluate student progress and assess student preparedness for related coursework
  • Attend and participate in Summer Bridge Experience training sessions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent knowledge of subject matter
  • Instructional experience and/or knowledge of instructional techniques and learning strategies preferred
  • Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, and/or low-income students from urban areas
  • Demonstrated teaching ability and ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations of students
  • Ability to establish priorities and work autonomously
  • Positive attitude and strong desire to help others
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate Student(s) and Lecturers in related fields (preferred minimum of one year of teaching or tutoring experience)

Pay range is $16.00-17.00 per hour and requires approximately 40-45 hours of work including training, preparation course instruction, and student assessment
