Young Scholar Program – ACT Instructor

The Ohio State University Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), Young Scholars Program (YSP) is looking for experienced ACT Instructors to fill immediate openings in our nine Young Scholars school districts: Akron Public, Canton City, Cincinnati Public, Cleveland Metropolitan, Columbus City, Dayton Public, Lorain City, Toledo Public, and Youngstown City. Candidates must have a college degree and be driven to help students succeed on standardized test. Candidates should also be confident with high school mathematics through Pre-calculus.

Employment Dates

November 1, 2019 – January 31, 2020 for two hours weekly – not to exceed 20 instructional hours

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and facilitate small/ mid-size group ACT Prep workshops

  • Teach all sections of the ACT

  • Consistent communication with YSP Program Coordinator/Manager

  • Provide feedback and referrals to support student learning

  • Bachelor's Degree (required)

  • Mathematical aptitude through Pre-Calculus and strong Verbal skills

  • High standardized test scores in English, reading, math, or science.

  • Ability to tutor English, Math, Reading, and Science

  • Comfortability teaching a wide range of content.

  • Possess an enthusiasm for working with high-school students and excellent communication skills

  • Ability to adapt to the different learning styles and student personalities

  • Able to work evenings and/or weekends

  • Experience tutoring or teaching (test prep experience is desired, but not required)

  • Ability to work effectively with youth from diverse communities and provide relatable experiences

  • Ability to establish priorities and work independently
