Traci Lewis receives Distinguished Staff Award

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is proud to announce that our ACCESS Collaborative director, Traci Lewis, has received The Ohio State University Distinguished Staff Award. This is the most prestigious award conferred to staff by the university, and Traci is most deserving.

Traci, who has been the ACCESS Collaborative director since 2007, has brokered partnerships to deepen and expand systems of support for ACCESS students, who have a remarkable success rate. In addition to her work with ODI, Traci has also been invited to serve on prestigious think tanks that are developing toolkits and guidance for universities across the nation to support parent students and their children.

As a staff member who clearly loves what she does – and the students she works with – Traci is truly a leader who is working tirelessly to change the higher education culture to be accessible and inclusive for student parents. One recommendation stated that the secrets to Traci's success are that “she stays well-informed about the holistic needs of students parents amid shifting education, political and social landscapes, and she never allows herself, her staff or her students to become complacent.” Another recommender, an ACCESS Collaborative student who is 12 hours shy of graduating, simply stated: “This would and could not be possible if it were not for the work of Ms. Traci Lewis and the ACCESS Collaborative program.”

Traci, along with the other awardees, will be honored at a luncheon on Friday, May 6 for their outstanding leadership, accomplishments and service to The Ohio State University. The 2016 Distinguished Staff winners will also be acknowledged during the Bowling Green vs. Ohio State football game on September 3, 2016.

The Distinguished Staff Award recognizes 12 staff members, who have had five years of continuous service, for exceptional accomplishments, leadership, and service to the university community by significantly improving or enhancing the quality of worklife in ways that make a substantial difference for their colleagues; contributing to outstanding and sustained improvements in customer services; and developing creative solutions to problems that result in significantly more effective and efficient university operations.
