STEM Graduate Student Panel shares experiences

On March 27th, 2015, the LSAMP Scholars program at Ohio State hosted a STEM Graduate Student Panel in which graduate students shared their experiences with undergraduate students. The panel, which informed and encouraged undergraduate students to attend graduate school, focused on the admission process, funding, and experiences as a graduate, teaching, or research assistant, or as a fellow.

Moderated by LSAMP Program Manager Tyler Cole, the panel featured graduate students: Ayo Adesanya, who is working toward a MD and PhD in the Biomedical Sciences; Yvan Delgado de la Flor, who is studying to earn his PhD in Entomology; Monica Gaudier-Diaz, a doctoral student in Neuroscience; Leroy Long III, who is studying for a PhD in STEM Education; Steven Villanueva, doctoral student in Astronomy; and Ashley Wallace, a PhD student in Chemistry.

LSAMP Scholars were able to ask questions regarding their chosen fields and heard advice about choosing a graduate school, securing funding, and just what it takes to receive an advanced degree.
