ODI names interim Ohio LSAMP director and Faculty Fellow
On January 1, 2019, Dr. Dorinda J. Gallant became Interim Director of The Ohio Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and an Office of Diversity and Inclusion Faculty Fellow.
Dr. Gallant replaces Dr. Barbara Fink, who, for the past eight years, served as the inaugural ODI Faculty Fellow and Ohio LSAMP Director. In this role, Dr. Fink was instrumental in helping ODI obtain over $8 million of National Science Foundation funding and other financial support to broaden STEM education participation across the state of Ohio.
Dr. Fink will return full-time to her faculty position in the College of Optometry.
Dr. Gallantis an associate professor and former program chair of quantitative research, evaluation and measurement (QREM) program in the Department of Educational Studies, College of Education and Human Ecology. She has served as a Translational Data Analytics Institute (formerly the Translational Data Analytics Discovery Theme) Faculty-In-Residence. As a faculty member in QREM, she prepares the next generation of education researchers through courses such as advanced research methods, sampling designs and survey research methods, introduction to educational measurement, instrument construction, introduction to educational evaluation, and introduction to educational statistics. Dr. Gallant holds a BA in Mathematics, a MEd in Secondary Education Mathematics, and a PhD in Educational Research. Dr. Gallant has taught mathematics both in K-12 (teacher, middle and high school) and post-secondary (lecturer, two-year institution) educational settings. Broadly, Dr. Gallant’s research interest is applied measurement in education. She has conducted research within the areas of validity evidences to support interpretation and use of test scores, fairness in testing, and program effectiveness.
