Our Realities Matter:
A Retreat for Women of Color

The 2015 Women of Color Retreat was held on November 20-22 at the Deer Creek Lodge & Conference Center in Mt. Sterling, Ohio. This retreat featured speaker Sil Lai Abrams, an experienced reality show analyst and domestic violence activist who has proven herself as a valuable force in changing the perceptions and realities of African American women. She is a NABJ award-winning New York City based writer who holds a passionate belief in the transformative power of self-awareness and personal accountability. Through her inspiring presentations, Ms. Abrams motivates others to create empowered lives and healthier relationships. 

Ms. Abrams is the founder & CEO of Truth in Reality, a non-profit social advocacy organization pioneering a movement to change imbalanced media depictions of women of color, especially on violent reality television. Through education, research, public awareness campaigns, social media engagement, strategic partnerships, and public commentary she aims to change society's acceptance of gender-based violence and ultimately reduce its incidence in the Black community. In addition to being the founder of Truth in Reality, Ms. Abrams serves on the Board of Directors for the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Ms. Abrams has appeared on ABC, CNN, MSNBC, Al Jazeera, FOX, BET, Court TV, and TruTV as an expert on relationships and domestic violence and been featured in national magazines such as Modern Woman, Oprah, Redbook, EBONY, Black Enterprise and Sister 2 Sister. Her inspirational life story and spiritually-based practical advice has helped Sil Lai become a highly sought after public speaker and workshop facilitator with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Medical Association, Harvard University, and Dress for Success being just a few of her distinguished clients.
