Latine Early Arrival Program

MESA EAP on Zoom call

Latine Early Arrival Program

The Latine Early Arrival Program is coordinated by the Latine Student Success team within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Latine EAP is a four-day residential program for incoming first-year Latine students centralized around four core themes: Mentorship, Empowerment, Service, and Academic Success. Latine EAP will be held in person for the 2021-2022 academic year, in accordance with university policy.

Specifically, Latine EAP prepares incoming first-year students for university life by providing educational and resourceful workshops, engaging presentations, and community-building activities before the start of the school year. At the end of this program, students will have successfully completed the Early Arrival Program. However, students are encouraged to continue participation in LSS programming by then applying for the Latine Leadership Institute.

Latine Student Success (LSS) programs are designed to promote full inclusion of Latine students on campus, while fostering academic success, personal empowerment, and leadership development.

Mentee Expectations

Latinx Early Arrival Program participant expectations:

  • Mentees are encouraged to attend the full early arrival program, however, the LSS team fully understands the need for flexibility during the start of the fall semester.
  • Mentees are encouraged to be authentic with mentors to forge a relationship grounded on mutual trust and respect.
  • Mentees should aim to establish a strong community bond through open communication among all other mentees, mentors, and with the program coordinator.
  • Mentees should be open-minded towards new experiences and willing to step outside of comfort zones to seek university resources, engage with campus life, and interact with staff and faculty.
