MENTEE Information

two Latino girls studying

As a LASER Mentee, whether a Latino high school student, or a Latino undergraduate, graduate or professional student, students will be able to learn from other students and faculty members who have previously travelled the same path. Mentees will benefit from the knowledge of their mentors by enhancing their networking opportunities, clarifying and developing a career direction, and having a support system in place during times of change and transition.

Mentees will meet 1-2 hours per week with their mentors either at The Ohio State University or Ohio Wesleyan, or at a public location close to the partner high school, working on preparation for entrance exams; establishing and following application timelines; creating writing samples and statements of purpose; and discovering academic scholarships and other resources.

“I love how LASER has aided me throughout my last year of high school by providing constant support and help for all of my college endeavors. In addition, I love how everyone is so caring and compassionate! I hope to gain leadership skills that will aid me in one day being a LASER mentor myself so I am able to give back and help someone else in the same way LASER has helped me!” ~LASER Mentee Kayla Calvillo (MSP Distinction Scholar)
