In May 2017, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson visited the Columbus Scholar House, the housing program that partners with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion's ACCESS Collaborative; the ACCESS Collaborative team provides programming on site, and the Scholar House provides office and meeting space.
Secretary Carson sent the following communication to all HUD staff:
“I saw a great example of how our government is helping people overcome adverse circumstances at the Scholar House in Columbus, Ohio. The Scholar House is a place where women like Bryanna Ramirez, a single mother, is going to school while raising a family. She is pursuing her American Dream with rental assistance from HUD. Bryanna has the will and desire to achieve more for herself and her children, but if it wasn't for HUD, and the help of others in her community, it might not have been possible for her to attend college while providing for her children.”
