About the Harry S. Truman Scholarship
What is the Truman Scholarship?
- The Harry S. Truman Scholarship recognizes outstanding students with a demonstrated commitment to public service. Students must be pursuing a career in public service.
- 50-60 awards are given nationally to current juniors. The scholarship contributes up to $30,000 towards graduate education in public service fields, as well as providing leadership and internship opportunities to scholars.
How does the Truman define public service?
The Truman defines public service as employment in government at any level, uniformed services, public-interest organizations, non-governmental research and/or educational organizations, public and private schools, and public service-oriented nonprofit organizations such as those whose primary purposes are to help needy or disadvantaged persons or to protect the environment.
