The Ohio State University will celebrate the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with several upcoming events:

Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration: January 16, 2014

Screening of the film, “A Reading of the Letter from Birmingham Jail”

The 2014, 42nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at The Ohio State University will feature Ms. Donna Brazile, author of the best-selling memoir Cooking with Grease:  Stirring the Pots in American Politics, adjunct professor at Georgetown University, syndicated newspaper columnist for Universal Uclick, columnist for Ms. Magazine and O, the Oprah Magazine, an on-air contributor to CNN, and ABC, where she regular appears on ABC’s "This Week."

Also featured will be a special brief tribute to former President of South Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and musical selections by the African American Voices Gospel Choir at The Ohio State University and Dr. Elaine Richardson.

The MLK Celebration is in collaboration with Radio One and Columbus State Community College.  It is sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center, The Ohio State University.

Pay it Forward and the Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center partner to host this annual day of community services, which brings together 1000 Ohio State students to pay it forward around the Ohio State and Columbus Communities while also paying tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Registration begins at 8:00 am in the Archie Griffin Ballroom of the Ohio Union.  Some of the opportunities include clean-up, working with youth, literacy education, serving meals, office work, and a variety of other worthwhile projects.

The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Student March is an activity sponsored by Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Beta Mu Chapter.  The Student March starts at 2:30 pm where students mobilize at The Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Hale Hall (154 West 12th Avenue) and march downtown to City Hall to join the City of Columbus for its tradition MLK City-wide march and celebration.  Bus transportation is provided back to Hale Hall at the conclusion of the march, and students have the option of staying to participate in the City-wide MLK Celebration.     

The march is also supported by student organizations such as the NAACP, OSU Student Chapter, BSA and other student groups and Greek organizations.

The 3rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blood Drive is the closing activity of the MLK week-long celebration at The Ohio State University.  The blood drive is held at Hale Hall, room 101 in the Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center, Office of Diversity and Inclusion from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm.   It is sponsored by the American Red Cross and student organizations
