Former vice provost for Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Lee, appointed to Alumni Advisory Council
Dr. Valerie B. Lee, vice provost for Diversity and Inclusion from 2010 to 2015, will represent the Office of Diversity and Inclusion for a three-year term on The Ohio State University Alumni Advisory Council.
The Alumni Advisory Council serves as an advisory group to the president of the university and to the association Board of Directors, promoting the general welfare and interests of the university and representing the academic and administrative breadth of Ohio State.
In addition to her role as vice provost for Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Lee was also vice president for Outreach and Engagement from 2012-2015, and served as interim chair in the Department of African American and African Studies (2016-2018); chair of the Department of English (2002-2009); and chair of the Department of Women's Studies (2000-2002).
Professor Lee is the recipient of The Ohio State University Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching (1993), The Ohio State University Faculty Award for Distinguished Service (2006), and The University Distinguished Service Award (2018). As a citizen of the larger Columbus community, she was inducted into the YWCA's Women of Achievement Academy (2005) and for thirty-two years served as Executive Director of Womanist Readers, one of the city's prominent reading groups. Nationally, she served as President of the Association of Departments of English and is a recipient of the profession's distinguished service award, the ADE Francis Andrew March Award (2019).
Prior to her appointment at Ohio State in 1991, Dr. Lee was a professor at Denison University for fifteen years. She earned her PhD in English from The Ohio State University.
