2016 Corporate and
ODI Scholar Symposium

student speaks with corporative representative at ODI Symposium

Over 200 students registered to attend the 2016 Corporate and ODI Scholar Symposium held on January 27, 2016, along with over 20 corporate organizations. For scholar attendees, the symposium offered a unique opportunity to network and mingle with role models who are in successful careers and to make significant career affiliations.

The event began with a Corporate and Scholar Brunch, where 80 invited students were able to sit down with corporate representatives and listen to Christopher Woods, managing director and interim North America Inclusion and Diversity Lead at Accenture. Woods, a first-generation college student, told participants that their careers will often be in transition and that such transitions are nothing to be afraid of. He also told students to set their own expectations as to where they want to be and to surround themselves with people who have those same expectations. Finally, Woods told students to be confident, be prepared, and be curious.

After the brunch, students were able to spend time with the corporate representatives during the Career Fair. Students commented that they appreciated having so many different companies in one place as well as being able to practice presenting themselves to potential employers.

The following day, selected students had the opportunity to interview with companies.
