2015 ODI Scholars
welcomed to campus

ODI Scholars dance to music at welcome ceremony

After arriving on The Ohio State University campus early – in most cases, two weeks or more – participants in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s bridge programs for LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation), MSP (Morrill Scholars Program) and YSP (Young Scholars Program), got to showcase their talents at the ODI Summer Bridge Program Variety Show on August 20, 2015. Students played the piano, sang – with or without an accompanying band – performed spoken word poetry, and danced, to name a few of the many talents that were on display.

The bridge programs, designed to help students with the transition from high school to college, give Scholars the opportunity to meet faculty and staff as well as take courses that will prepare them for the rigors of university classes.

The next week, on August 24, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion welcomed the rest of its ODI Scholars with the annual ODI Scholars Welcome Celebration. The 2015 edition got off to a rousing start with staff and students dancing in their seats and in the aisles.

Professor Sharon Davies, Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion, kept up the high energy and urged the ODI Scholars to remember what makes them all so important, that their diverse experiences contribute to the learning experience of all students at The Ohio State University.

Students were then introduced to the various subunits within ODI and their staff as well as all the opportunities and events for ODI Scholars. Scholars were also informed about some of the many services offered by ODI.

When the program ended, Scholars were high-fived by current ODI Scholars as they exited through a Tunnel of Gratitude. During the Resource Fair that followed the celebration, Scholars were given the chance to learn in more detail about the programs and initiatives within ODI that will support them as they begin their academic career at Ohio State.

Welcome ODI Scholars!
