Education for Citizenship Initiative
A university-wide collaboration to foster frank, meaningful discussions across our many communities
The Education for Citizenship Initiative aims to inspire our Ohio State community to engage deeply, with integrity and respect, when expressing ideas and beliefs, be it in word or action. With a motto “education for citizenship,” Ohio State, since its inception, has aimed to develop informed citizens, who are able to amalgamate their learning and thinking in the classroom and in other formal and informal settings.
Ohio State is a university that seeks and welcomes diverse ideas, perspectives, and views. Academic freedom is a core value of our institution and Ohio State is committed to creating learning opportunities in which all members of the university community can engage in frank, meaningful discussions with others of differing views.
- Build trust and resilience among students, faculty, and staff
- Amplify the values of civic engagement, deep civility, freedom of expression, diverse ideas and people
- Provide access to resources to support deep dialogue in our classrooms and communities
- Create a university climate that supports freedom of expression that is in keeping with our values
