Dr. Tamara Butler, a 2012-2013 Bell Fellow, along with co-author Pam Reed, has had their article, “Flipping the Script: When Service-Learning Recipients Become Service-Learning Givers,” selected to receive the Theory Into Practice Best Article Award for 2015. Dr. Butler is currently an assistant professor in the Department of English at Michigan State University.

The articles focuses on what happens when urban students see themselves as vital, powerful participants in giving back instead of being given to, that they become critical partners, young leaders, and civically engaged citizens.

The award will be presented at the TIP/Ohio State reception at AERA in Washington D.C. on Friday, April 8th.  In addition to formal presentation of the award certificate, each author will each receive a monetary award.

Published since 1962, Theory Into Practice is the fully refereed journal owned by The Ohio State University’s College of Education and Human Ecology. TIP is organized around a single theme, and features multiple perspectives and scholarly, yet accessible, discussions of current and future concerns of interest to today’s educators.
