Mentees will follow a six month curriculum consisting of workshops and programming on topics such as:
- Relationship Building
- Career and Major Exploration
- Goal Setting
- Financial Aid and College Admissions
- Anger Management
- Building Healthy Self-Esteem
- Professional Etiquette
- Campus Tours
Workshops will take place at Community Properties of Ohio's Columbus Scholar House and on Ohio State's campus and will be facilitated by community partners, colleagues from within Ohio State’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and staff from various OHio State departments and units.
Mentors commit to one year of mentoring beginning in the fall. Mentors will attend leadership development trainings provided by the Mentoring Center of Central Ohio to assist in the mentoring relationship process. The trainings will cover program curriculum, mentor expectations, how to foster mentor/mentee relationships and mentor/mentee benefits.
Mentors and mentees will be matched during the fall. The pair will interact monthly during the eight month project via campus visits, emails and phone. We are hopeful that mentees and mentors will build long lasting relationships and keep in contact after graduation beyond the umbrella of the CHAMPS Project.
