Eligibility

Mentees

There are two levels of participation:

  • Category I: One-on-One Mentoring

    Category I is for HS students only. Category I participants will be matched with one pregnant/parenting college student who participates in the OSU ACCESS Program in a one-on-one mentoring relationship. Category I mentees will be required to attend mandatory monthly college prep workshops alongside their mentor throughout the academic school year. 

    Eligibility: Participation as a Category I Mentee requires:

    • High School female who is pregnant or parenting in the Columbus surrounding area with an interest in attending a 2-year or 4-year college
    • Must be a single parent who has full time custodial responsibility of all dependent children
    • 2.5 GPA 
      • Special Note:  Although we have desired GPA requirements, we will still review all applications, even if they do not meet our GPA requirements.
    • Interest in developing and maintaining a mentor-mentee relationship
    • Interested in serving the community 
  • Category II: Online Group Mentoring 

    Category II participants will be part of a mentoring group, led by one pregnant/parenting college student (group size no larger than 4 people). Category II mentees will be required to participate in online college prep programming throughout the academic school year and have the option to attend Category I monthly workshops. Please note, In order to participate as a Category II participant, you must have access to a computer or mobile device (e.g. tablet) and internet access.   Category II participants will be required to participate in online college prep/self-sufficiency programming (consisting of online lessons, assignments & group discussions). 

    Eligibility: Participation as a Category II Mentee requires:

    • Female single parent (or expecting single parent) between the ages of 18-26 living in the Columbus area with a serious interest in attending a 2-year or 4-year college
    • Interest in developing and maintaining a mentoring relationship
    • Interested in serving the community

Mentors

There are two levels of participation:  

  • Category I: One-on-One Mentoring

    Category I participants will be matched with one pregnant/parenting high school student in a one-on-one mentoring relationship. Category I mentors will be required to attend mandatory monthly workshops alongside their mentee throughout the academic school year. 

    Eligibility: Participation as a Category I Mentor requires:

    • Female single parent (or expecting single parent) attending  a college or university in the Columbus, OH area and enrolled  in the ACCESS Program 
    • Currently maintaining a GPA of a 2.7 or higher
    • Looking for professional, presentation and leadership skills
    • Interested in serving the community
  • Category II: Online Group Mentoring 

    Category II participants will mentor pregnant/parenting young women in Columbus, Ohio in an online and group setting.  Mentors will be matched with multiple mentees (no more than 3) to form a mentoring group.  Category II mentors will be required to participate in online programming throughout the academic school year and attend one mandatory face to face group session per semester. 

    Eligibility: Participation as a Category II Mentor requires:

    • Female single parent (or expecting single parent) enrolled in a college or university located in the Columbus area - OR- Alumna of the OSU ACCESS Program 
    • Currently maintaining a GPA of a 2.7 or higher
    • Looking for professional, presentation and leadership skills
    • Interested in serving the community
