The overview & expectations of the program will be discussed during a short orientation for mentors. Following orientation, mentors will participate in a Leadership Training faciltated by OSU's Student Life.  Mentors will learn communication skills to build rapport, conflict resolutions to overcome barriers in mentoring relationships and what it means to be a mentor & a leader.

       Workshop I:          Welcome Aboard: Program Orientation and Meet & Greet

The overview & rules/policies/procedures of the program will be discussed during a short orientation given by CHAMPS Program staff. Following orientation, mentors and mentees will interact in group and one-on-one activities.

     Worskhop II:        College Prep 101: Financing your Future & Applying for College

Part I of this session will be facilitated by OSU’s Office of Enrollment, Student Financial Aid & will focus on the basics of Financial Aid.  Part II of this will be facilitated by I Know I Can and will cover the college admissions process and what admission officers are looking for in potential college candidates.

     Workshop III:             Relationship               Restart:           Building Healthy Relationships

All relationships exist on a spectrum from healthy to unhealthy to abusive. This interactive session asks participants to decide where real life scenarios belong on the relationship spectrum. Participants will also examine facts and myths about teen dating abuse. Also, this interactive session will explore the use of technology as a tool for power and control as well as prevention in dating relationships, from Snapstreaks to stalking and beyond. This session will be provided by The Center for Family & Safety Healing.

  Workshop IV:    College Bound: Gearing Up for   Higher Education

Part I: Facilitated by OSU's Dennis Learning Center, the Gearing Up for Higher Education workshop was developed to help students know what it really takes to succeed in college.  It will help students apply strategies for managing time, learning from texts and lectures and preparing for exams that will help students thrive in the context of a university.

University Ambassadors share their student experiences while leading a walking tour of campus.  The tour will showcase living and eating options, academic resources, and involvement opportunities.

Mentees and Mentors will be recognized for their accomplishments & completing the 2017-2018 CHAMPS Program.  Families and children are invited and encouraged to attend.
