Junior Summer Institute

YSP Scholars

Junior Summer Institute (JSI) brings together talented rising junior high school Scholars from the participating Young Scholars cities. During the one-week residential program, students will:

  • Gain awareness of campus resources
  • Practice scholarship through the lens of researching/addressing social justice issues
  • Expand their sense of empowerment as positive change agents

The goals of JSI are to help students;

  • Develop an understanding of college level work in Mathematics, English, Reading, Critical Thinking and Writhing, through the lens of Social Justice
  • Create goals and a plan for growth during the academic year
  • Increase awareness of what it takes to become a successful OSU Student
  • Understand the attitudes and behaviors that contribute to success
  • Gain familiarity with campus resources including university faculty, staff, offices, and programs
  • Leave the experience with an excitement and enthusiasm about their future academic career at The Ohio State University
  • Create a spirit of collegiality, collaboration and cohesiveness among our scholars and staff
