 The overview & expectations of the program will be discussed during a short orientation for mentors. Following orientation, the Mentoring Center of Central Ohio will provide training titled: “Making of a Mentor”.

Parent Orientation/ Meet & Greet

(Parents, Mentees & Mentors)

The overview, procedures and expectations of the program will be discussed with parents & high school students.  A meet and greet between mentees & mentors will close this session.

Session I:

Toxic: School, Work & Financial Stress

College students have always experienced academic and social stress. Now financial stress is in the mix in a big way and helping push student anxiety to record levels. Students will learn ways to manage and cope with the pressures related to school, work and financial stress.

Session II:

College Prep 101: Financial Aid & College Admissions 

 OSU Campus - TBA Part I of this session will be facilitated by OSU’s Office of Enrollment, Student Financial Aid & will focus on the basics of Financial Aid.  Part II of this will cover the college admissions process and what admission officers are looking for in potential college candidates.

Session III:

Loving You: The Pathway to a Healthy Self-Esteem

Healthy self-esteem is a major key to success in life. The development of a positive self-concept or healthy self-esteem is extremely important to the happiness and success of children and teenagers. Facilitated by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, during this session students will learn techniques and strategies to building and maintaining a healthy self-esteem.

Session IV:

Dream Chasers: Setting & Achieving Goals  

 OSU Campus - Hale Hall

(Room 101)

Setting goals is an excellent way to provide you with direction and purpose. Goals can help you to channel your energy towards meaningful activities as you continue along your journey. Students will learn the importance of goal setting and the step by step process of setting goals.  This session will be facilitated by the Mentoring Center of Central Ohio.

Walk it Out: OSU Campus Tour

University Ambassadors share their student experiences while leading a walking tour of campus. The tour will showcase living and eating options, academic resources, and involvement opportunities

 Mentees and Mentors will be recognized for completing the 2016-2017 CHAMPS Program.  Families and children are invited and encouraged to attend.
